Prekinder Head to MOCHA as They Learn about Communicating through the Arts

The arts are media of inquiry that provide opportunities for learning, communication and expression. Arts, also promote attitudes such as empathy and appreciation, and skills like analysis, that help us to see the uniqueness of each person as well as explore the commonalities that connect us. Pre-Kinder Azul and Verde students attended an art workshop at the Museum of Children's Art, in Oakland. The students had the opportunity to express themselves using paint, fabrics, clay and all kinds of unusual materials.

Prekinder Children Express Themselves through Photography

Pre-Kinder Rojo and Amarillo students inquired into portrait photography and how photographers capture their subjects' emotions in a picture. Specifically, they explored Dorethea Lange's work and discussed how they thought some of her subjects were feeling at the time the images were taken. Afterward, students were given basic instructions on how to take photographs, and they were paired up with another student to take portraits of each other expressing emotion. You can see their work in the hallway gallery!
