The New York Times Says Bilingualism You Smarter
This past weekend, “The New York Times” published yet another article on the benefits of bilingualism. The kind of evidence discussed by the author indicates that being bilingual enhances the brain's executive function, the “command system that directs the attention processes that we use for planning, solving problems and performing various other mentally demanding tasks.” The author goes on to say that bilinguals may have “a heightened ability to monitor the environment”. There is also great news for those who did not grow up bilingually: “the bilingual experience appears to influence the brain from infancy to old age (and there is reason to belive that it may also apply to those who learn a second language later in life).” Click here to read the article.
