A Day at EBI
PRE-KINDER
Our Pre-Kinder program focuses on the development of the whole child and is based on the following principles:
- Play-based
- Inquiry-driven: Student's interests help shape learning
- Structured around transdisciplinary units of inquiry
- Designed to support varied learning styles
- Strong emphasis on creativity
- Integrated music and art component
- Diverse students and staff reinforce diversity and cultural understanding that is both experienced and taught in the classroom
Pre-Primary is 100% Spanish. Students who enter with no Spanish language are supported as needed during their transition to Spanish. We have found that there is a very fast learning period for both 3- and 4-year-olds.
A typical schedule for Pre-Kinder students is:

| 10:45 – 11:00 | Transition and bathroom routine |

| 11:20 – 12:00 | Activities and clean up (art, manipulatives, science, language, etc.) |
| 12:00 – 12:20 | Lunch |
| 12:20 – 12:30 | Transition / bathroom |
| 12:30 – 2:00 | Story and siesta (nap) |
| 2:00 – 2:20 | Merienda (snack) |
| 2:20 – 3:00 | Language activities and inquiry in small groups |
LOWER SCHOOL
In our Lower School program (Kindergarten through 5th grade) we aim to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
The EBI curriculum:
- Emphasizes the acquisition of conceptual understanding
- Supports learners to construct knowledge through guided inquiry
- Supports varied learning styles
- Emphasizes creativity
- Integrates music, art and PE with specialist teachers
- Includes the study of Mandarin beginning in third grade
- Reinforces diversity and cultural understanding that is both experienced and taught in the classroom
Kindergarten and First Grade students have one hour of English instruction each day and the rest of their instruction is in Spanish. In Second grade the children have two hours of instruction in English. In third grade and above children have half of their day in English and half in Spanish with Mandarin four times each week.
