EBI Announces Jon Fulk - New Head of EBI

The Escuela Bilingüe Internacional Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the appointment of Jon Fulk as EBI’s new head of school. Fulk, who currently heads the primary school of the American School Foundation in Mexico City, will assume his new role in the 2008/09 calendar school year.

Jon Fulk, originally from Ohio, has spent the past 11 years living in Mexico City, Mexico. Since 2000 he has worked at The American School Foundation (ASF), first as a teacher, then an assistant Head and finally as Head of the Lower School, overseeing approximately 940 students, 700 families and 98 full-time faculty and staff. Jon holds a B.A. in history from The University of Toleldo, an M.A. in Student Affairs Administration from Michigan State University, an M.A. in Elementary Education from The University of Alabama and expects to complete his doctorate in Education Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota. Jon brings extensive experience with IB’s Primary Years Programme (PYP) and has been instrumental in leading his school through the accreditation and restructuring process.

In his own words:

"When I began talking with and meeting members of the EBI community, I was thoroughly convinced that EBI would be a place for me to learn, grow and contribute. EBI families are fortunate to belong to a community where people have come together to bring to life their hopes, dreams and beliefs for the best education for their children. I share their passion for a bilingual, inquiry-based education and feel privileged to be joining the EBI community this summer."

EBI presents Maquilapolis

Escuela Bilingüe Internacional (EBI) was proud to present a private showing

of Maquilapolis in September of 2007, produced by Sergio de la Torre and Vicky Funari. De la Torre was on hand to provide post-showing insight into the making of the film, along with answering questions posed by guests.

This was the first in a series of events with which we hope to illustrate the richness of the Latin@ contribution to the world of art, film and literature.

A brief look at the film:

Carmen and Lourdes work in Tijuana’s maquiladoras, the multinationally-owned

factories which came to Mexico for its cheap labor. Each day these factory

workers confront labor violations, environmental devastation and urban chaos

-- life on the frontier of the global economy. In MAQUILAPOLIS, Carmen and

Lourdes reach beyond the daily struggle for survival to organize for change:

Carmen takes a major television manufacturer to task for violating her labor

rights. Lourdes pressures the government to clean up a toxic waste dump left

behind by a departing factory. As they work for change, the world changes

too: a global economic crisis and the availability of cheaper labor in China

begin to pull the factories away from Tijuana, leaving Carmen, Lourdes and

their colleagues with an uncertain future.
