EBI Celebrates Black History Month
On Friday February 17, 2017 at the Alcatraz Campus, the students had a wonderful learning experience to commemorate Black History Month. Our students came to school in their pajamas and started the day with a community breakfast in the cafeteria. The breakfast was designed to recognize and teach the children about the work of the Black Panthers in 1969. At this pivotal time in America, the Panthers had a message of self determination and established the very first organized free school breakfast food program that ultimately spread across the country. The morning continued with story time with “Miss Carla and Miss Kimi” who told the children stories about the history of Oakland and the many contributions of African Americans. The children, teachers and volunteer parents alike had a wonderful time!
Thank you to all the amazing volunteers who made this amazing day happen!
