Ms. Susy is a native Spanish speaker originally from the country of Ecuador, where she previously owned and ran a school for 26 years. There she gained invaluable experience, exposing her to all aspects of education and education administration from the role of teacher to the role of principal. After immigrating to the USA, Ms. Susy became a Spanish teacher at Lighthouse Community Charter Public School in East Oakland. There she taught Spanish and ESL and loved to incorporate lessons about Latin American culture into her classes so that students become engaged and learn about their Latino heritage.
As a teacher, she uses a practical and flexible approach in order to promote interaction and incorporate student creativity. With 30 years of teaching experience, she is proud to have taught generations and to have seen some of her best students grow up to become successful contributors as adults.
When she is not teaching, Ms. Susy enjoys singing, dancing, cooking, riding roller coasters and visiting Ecuador to see her family and kids, Joshua and Sarah. She is so excited to join EBI family and learn to become an even better teacher.
