Dear EBI Community,
On behalf of the Board of Trustees and our Head of School Search Committee, I am excited to announce that Dr. Paola Clark will be our next Head of School (HoS) beginning July 1, 2019. Paola was selected from an international pool of diverse and talented candidates after a thorough search process that engaged students, parenting adults, faculty, staff, and trustees.
EBI and our search consultant partner, Carney Sandoe & Associates, received dozens of inquiries and applications for the HoS position. To evaluate applicants, the Search Committee developed an in-depth assessment tool designed to evaluate candidates’ capacities to meet and exceed the community’s expectations for our next leader. Assessment categories included, but were not limited to, cross-cultural competency, faculty relations, strategic vision, educational leadership, and IB experience. In November, the Search Committee evaluated and assessed the strongest candidates, selecting six semi-finalists whom the Committee interviewed over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. As you know, three finalists were invited for campus visits in December. Each finalist spent two days visiting our campuses and meeting with members of our community in different forums. In addition to reviewing community feedback submitted through surveys and assessing the finalists in multiple settings, the Search Committee performed extensive reference checks on each of the finalists.
From this extensive process, Paola emerged as the clear choice for EBI’s next Head of School. Paola is consistently described as a great collaborator and communicator. In the course of her 18-year career, she has served in several schools providing visionary and strategic leadership in all facets of campus operations and programming. Her collaborative “can do” attitude has positively impacted school enrollment and financial sustainability, while building a strong presence for schools in their communities. She clearly demonstrates a thorough expertise in education and an in-depth understanding of the intellectual, developmental, and emotional needs of diverse learners of all ages.
Most importantly, Paola embodies EBI’s mission and core values. Reflecting on her own experience as a learner in an IB school, she says, “I’m a walking example of what an IB learner in an immersion program can do!”
Paola is currently the Principal at Notre Dame de Sion School, an independent PK-8 school in Kansas City. She has held several roles at independent schools (including three IB schools) in the US and Lima, Peru. Those roles have included Middle School Division Head, Director of Auxiliary Programs, Dean of Student Life, Curriculum Coordinator, Science Chairperson, higher education consultant, instructor for pre- and in-service teachers, and science faculty. She is also an IB Examiner.
Paola attended an English-Spanish bilingual independent school in Lima, Peru, where she obtained her IB Diploma. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biotechnology from Universidad Nacional Agraria la Molina in Lima, Peru; a Master of Science degree in Science Education from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida; and a Doctorate of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida. Paola is currently pursuing an Executive Scholar Certificate in nonprofit Management at the Kellogg School of Management–Northwestern University.
I would like to thank all members of EBI’s community for your active and fervent engagement during this search process. I would also like to particularly thank the members of the Search Committee (and their families) for their immense commitment and dedication to EBI over the past six months:
