Technology integration in kindergarten and first grade
We have iPads in the kindergarten and first grade classrooms. We use a learning center model where four to five students work with a teacher when using a device. The teacher leads the use of technology with clear objectives. Our goal is for students to learn early digital literacy skills as well as use technology tools to communicate, investigate and collaborate. The iPads are also incorporated into the math and literacy centers to engage students in differentiated learning experiences.
iPads, MacBooks and ChromeBooks in grades 2–8
In second through eighth grade technology continues to be integrated into learning experiences across the curriculum. Students are encouraged to use technology to create rather than consume. They do this by using applications to create presentations, videos, animations and digital books. We give our students a wide range of tools to experiment with.
EBI is committed to having a diverse range of technology tools so that our students are prepared when they leave EBI for high school and the world beyond. Students have access to iPads, MacBooks and ChromeBooks, allowing them to learn how to manage and troubleshoot across devices. Having diverse platforms gives our students the opportunity to experience a variety of software including MS Office, Google Applications, Mac OS and IOS applications.
Beginning in fifth grade and through eighth grade, our students have access to Google Applications for Education (GAFE). The suite of GAFE apps include Google Drive, Calendar, Gmail, Google Docs, Slides, Sheets and Google Classroom. Google Classroom is a learning management system (LMS). Through Google Classroom teachers are able to share documents, assign homework and send their classes notifications. Google Classroom interacts directly with Google Drive giving our teachers and students a comprehensive user experience. The use of the GAFE applications are directed by our teachers with a clear focus on academic work, digital literacy, organization and digital citizenship.

EBI has installed Cisco access points, switches and firewalls, throughout both buildings, providing us with a unified wired and wireless platform. Both campuses have a backbone bandwidth of 50Mbps/10Mbps. This is constantly monitored and will be increased based on the school’s needs. At EBI, we use Cisco Meraki and Chromebook Device console to manage the mobile devices, enforce security policies, and to deploy software and applications.
