The International Baccalaureate

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a globally recognized leader in 21st-century education for its emphasis on academic rigor, inquiry-based learning, and the development of personal skills that best prepare students for a changing world.

An Exceptional Global Education

Dynamically involved in ongoing programme development, the International Baccalaureate works closely with educational research teams from all over the world to remain at the forefront of the best teaching and learning practices. The IB is highly respected for preparing students for the top colleges and universities in their own countries and abroad.

All of the IB programmes are founded on a learner-centered and inquiry-based pedagogy. Teaching in the IB model is built on a learner-centric approach that revolves around the curiosity and questions of the students. It is designed to encourage students to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who are prepared to be engaged and responsible world citizens.

The IB Programmes

The International Baccalaureate offers four coordinated curriculum programmes for approved schools. Escuela Bilingüe Internacional uses the IB Primary Years Programme, for students in pre-kinder to 5th grade, and the IB Middle Years Programme for students in grades 6 to 8.

All of the International Baccalaureate programmes share a similar pedagogical premise and offer an integrated continuum of international education. They encourage both personal and academic achievement by challenging students to excel in their studies as well as in their personal development. Schools must be officially authorized by the International Baccalaureate® in order to teach the IB programmes and to be recognized as an IB World school.

IB Learner Profile

The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.

We critically appreciate our own cultures and personal histories, as well as the values and traditions of others. We seek and evaluate a range of points of view, and we are willing to grow from the experience.

We show empathy, compassion and respect. We have a commitment to service, and we act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and in the world around us.

We approach uncertainty with forethought and determination; we work independently and cooperatively to explore new ideas and innovative strategies. We are resourceful and resilient in the face of challenges and change.

We understand the importance of balancing different aspects of our lives—intellectual, physical, and emotional—to achieve well-being for ourselves and others. We recognize our interdependence with other people and with the world in which we live.

We thoughtfully consider the world and our own ideas and experience. We work to understand our strengths and weaknesses in order to support our learning and personal development.
