An excellent bilingual education, priced for your family
Nearly a third of EBI families pay a personalized tuition rate tailored to their household budget. If you are concerned about cost, connect with our admissions team before making your decision—we are here to help make an EBI education possible.
What Flexible Tuition Means at EBI
EBI publishes full tuition for each division. For families who need it, flexible tuition offers a rate that reflects their financial circumstances.
Economic diversity is a cornerstone of EBI. We believe a strong learning environment is enriched by a diversity of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences—and that socio-economic diversity is an essential part of that vision.
Flexible Tuition is not separate from our mission. It is one of the ways we make that mission possible.
About a third of EBI families pay a personalized tuition rate. If the published tuition feels out of reach for your family, we encourage you to learn more and talk with us before ruling out an EBI education.
$1.7M Committed Each Year
Funds are set aside annually for the EBI Flexible Tuition Program, so a family's financial resources, not a fixed sticker price, shape what they pay.
~30% of EBI Families Receive Flexible Tuition
Roughly a third of families receive a flexible tuition rate each year. We encourage any family for whom tuition feels like a stretch to apply.
Whole Family Picture
We look far beyond simple income. We consider your complete financial landscape — including assets, healthcare costs, and other tuition commitments — to find your customized rate.
2026-27 Tuition
| Grade level | Full tuition |
|---|---|
| Pre-Kinder (PK) & Transitional Kindergarten (TK) | $34,810 |
| Lower School (Grades K–5) | $40,700 |
| Middle School (Grades 6–8) | $43,630 |
Tuition is set annually by the EBI Board of Trustees and increases each year.
Tuition Includes:
Bilingual instruction, IB programming: Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP), student support services, and school programming.
The top of our tuition index reflects the full cost of an EBI education. Families at other points on the index contribute an amount that reflects their financial circumstances. Through our Flexible Tuition program, many families pay between $15,000 and $40,000 annually, based on each family’s individual financial circumstances.
How Flexible Tuition Works
To establish your customized tuition, EBI partners with Clarity, a secure and user-friendly platform. Clarity collects and verifies your family's financial information to help us tailor a tuition rate.
Submit your Clarity application
Create your Clarity account. Visit app.clarityapp.com/sign-up.
Add EBI to your application. Enter household information and add Escuela Bilingüe Internacional (Emeryville, CA) under People > Applicants. You can save and return at any time.
Complete your financial information and pay the $65 application fee — one fee per household covers all Clarity schools.
Verify your taxes. Clarity offers two pathways: "Clarity" and "IRS". The IRS pathway is significantly faster, transferring documents within 24 hours. Families who set up an IRS.gov account before starting have a much easier time.
Upload supporting documents as they appear on your Clarity dashboard. International families will be asked for income verification and home-country tax documents, with English translation.
Deadlines
Returning families: December 14, 2026
New families: March 1, 2027
Late applications are reviewed only if funds remain.
When You’ll Hear
Flexible tuition decisions are released at the same time as admissions decisions, in March, through the Clarity portal.
How Decisions Are Made
Holistic review
Clarity reviews income, assets, household expenses, and other unique circumstances to understand your family's actual ability to pay, ensuring we find a customized tuition rate that makes sense for your budget.
Confidential
Financial information is submitted through Clarity, a secure platform, and is seen only by the small group of administrators on the Flexible Tuition Committee.
Separate from admissions
Admissions and flexible tuition decisions are made independently — but you must apply for both at the same time.
Deposits & fees
Beyond tuition, a few standard deposits and fees apply during enrollment.
Tuition Deposit
A non-refundable deposit of 10% of tuition is due with the enrollment agreement. Returning families: mid-February. New families: mid-March.
Payment Plans
One payment ($25 annual fee, due April 30)
Two payments ($25, April 30 and September 30)
Ten monthly payments ($55, first due April 30, final January 31).
Capital Improvement Fee
A one-time, non-refundable $2,000 fee for newly enrolling families (per family, not per student). The fee is prorated based on your flexible tuition allocation. You can pay in one payment, in two installments, or monthly via FACTS.
ASP Fee
$2,500 per year for students in the Accelerated Spanish Program, subject to annual adjustment.
Staying at EBI
Our flexible tuition model is built to support families for their entire time at EBI.
Returning Families
We dedicate our resources first to our current families, ensuring your student can grow with us year after year. Because your financial landscape can change, families submit an update through Clarity each year. We make every effort to keep your iflexible tuition consistent. Please keep in mind that because overall tuition rises 3–6% annually to support our teachers and program operations, maintaining the same rate tier will still result in a modest annual adjustment.
Siblings and faculty children
After returning students, we evaluate incoming siblings of enrolled students and children of our faculty and staff, and can typically meet their demonstrated need. Multiple children in tuition-charging schools is factored directly into your household obligations.
When circumstances change
Families who enroll at the top of the index are asked to plan on staying there. But life shifts — a job loss, medical expenses, another child starting independent school. In those cases, we will work with you to evaluate whether a flexible rate can be offered.
Frequently asked questions
Answers to the questions families ask us most about flexible tuition.
-
For the 2026–27 school year, EBI’s tuition is $34,810 for Pre-Kinder and Transitional Kindergarten, $40,700 for Kindergarten through Grade 5, and $43,630 for Grades 6–8. Through EBI’s Flexible Tuition program, many families pay less based on their assessed financial profile, so families are encouraged to apply even if full tuition feels out of reach.
-
Yes. EBI’s need-based program is called Flexible Tuition, and roughly a third of EBI families receive it. What a family pays is indexed to their assessed financial profile, and supporting economic diversity is one of the school’s cornerstone values.
-
EBI calls it Flexible Tuition: instead of one fixed price for every family, tuition is adjusted to what your family can afford. EBI uses Clarity to assess your household’s income, assets, expenses, and other circumstances, and your rate depends on that financial profile and available funds.
-
You apply for Flexible Tuition through Clarity. Create a Clarity account, add Escuela Bilingüe Internacional (Emeryville, CA) to your student’s application, enter your household’s financial details, pay the one-time $65 application fee, and verify your taxes through Clarity’s IRS pathway. The application is mobile-friendly and fully available in Spanish.
-
Flexible Tuition applications through Clarity are due December 14, 2026 for returning families and March 1, 2027 for new families. Late applications are reviewed only if funds remain available.
-
The Clarity application has a one-time $65 fee per household. That single fee covers your application to every Clarity-participating school, not only EBI.
-
No. EBI makes admission decisions independently of Flexible Tuition decisions, so applying does not affect whether your child is admitted. You do need to apply for both at the same time.
-
EBI offers three payment plans through FACTS Tuition Management: one annual payment ($25 fee, due April 30), two payments ($25 fee, due April 30 and September 30), or ten monthly payments ($55 fee). FACTS makes secure automatic deductions from your account.
-
A non-refundable deposit of 10% of tuition is due with the Enrollment Agreement — mid-February for returning families and mid-March for new families. It reserves your child’s place for the coming year.
-
Newly enrolling families pay a one-time, non-refundable Capital Improvement Fee of $2,000. It is charged once per family, not per child, and can be paid in one payment, two installments, or monthly through FACTS.
-
Beyond tuition, budget for a few set fees: a one-time $2,000 Capital Improvement Fee for new families, a $65 Clarity application fee if you apply for Indexed Tuition, and the annual FACTS payment-plan fee of $25–$55. Students in the Accelerated Spanish Program also pay a $2,500 annual ASP fee, subject to annual adjustment.

-
EBI tuition covers a full Spanish-English bilingual education within an authorized IB World School — the Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes — from Pre-Kinder through Grade 8, with an average 8:1 student-teacher ratio. Some programs and services, such as the Accelerated Spanish Program and extended care, carry additional fees.
-
Yes — that is the purpose of Indexed Tuition. EBI adjusts tuition to a family’s financial profile so the school is within reach across a wide range of incomes. Some families pay between $15,000 and $40,000 a year based on their assessed financial profile, and flexible payment plans lower the barrier further, so families are encouraged to apply before ruling EBI out on cost.
-
Start by reviewing the tuition table and fees on this page, then begin your Clarity application if you plan to apply for Indexed Tuition. To connect the financial picture with admission, visit the Admissions page to inquire, schedule a tour, or apply through Ravenna.
-
Written notice of cancellation must be submitted by May 1 to avoid further tuition obligation; the tuition deposit remains non-refundable. After May 1, families are responsible for the full tuition amount stated in the Enrollment Agreement.
